Cost of Living Hub Community Support Project for Asylum Seekers, Refugees and Immigrants

We are excited to share that our community-led endeavour has received backing from the prestigious National Lottery Community Fund.

Welcome to the official project page of the London Advocacy Cost of Living Hub Community Support Project for Asylum Seekers, funded by The National Lottery Community Fund.

Our mission is to promote the social integration of the immigrant communities in Greater London, improve their educational opportunities, and empower them with skills and qualifications for a better future.

About London Advocacy (LA)

London Advocacy was established with a vision to create a supportive environment for asylum seekers and immigrants, particularly those affected by the economic and social issues including ongoing cost of living crisis. Many individuals have recently sought refuge in the UK due to political instability in their home countries, and they face challenges in legal, financial, and emotional aspects of settling in a new country. Language barriers and lack of knowledge about available resources further compound their difficulties.

The Cost of Living Community Hub

The Cost of Living Community Hub is an innovative project designed to address the unique needs of recent asylum seekers and immigrants who are disproportionately affected by the cost of living crisis. Our project aims to provide comprehensive support through the following services:

  1. Legal Advice: LA’s in-house solicitors offer one-on-one sessions to guide individuals on contacting local offices, explain government regulations related to the cost of living crisis, and provide legal support.
  2. Economic Guidance: LA’s Business team keep individuals informed about current legislation, economic packages, and local business updates. This information is disseminated through various channels, including a community WhatsApp Channels, Zoom seminars, and face-to-face consultancy hours.
  3. Information and Workshops: LA’s communication team regularly provides up-to-date briefs on cost of living crisis-related matters and conduct information sessions and workshops.

Our Impact and Vision

We envision running the Cost of Living Community Hub for at least one year, starting from March 2023, with the possibility of extension based on demand and funding. Our extensive network of community members already benefiting from LA’s services ensures the smooth flow of information between service users and beneficiaries, mitigating the negative effects of the cost of living crisis.

The project’s core focus is to support disadvantaged recent asylum seekers and immigrants who are most vulnerable to the cost of living crisis. With a combination of face-to-face and online sessions, telephone support, and workshops, we aim to alleviate anxiety, depression, and other psychological effects of the crisis while fostering resilience and hope.

Collaborative Efforts

We are proud to collaborate with more than 15 dedicated volunteers and local organizations, including local community organizations, Local Mosques, training centres, and local businesses. These partnerships enable us to provide well-coordinated support to meet the growing demand from migrant communities.

Our project is not only a lifeline for those in need but also a stepping stone towards a stronger, more inclusive society.

Together, we can make a difference in the lives of asylum seekers and immigrants facing the challenges of the cost of living crisis.
